Sodiq Umar and William Troost Ekong was on target as Nigeria Super Eagles beat Guinea-Bissau 0-2 in the Africa Cup of Nations to make it 3 wins out of 3 games played, MySportPlug reporting.
It was a game which saw the three time Champions showing their dominance going forward despite the coach making so many chances to the team that played against Egypt and Sudan which they won both games giving them six points and comfortable lead at the top of the group.
The match could have ended in another way but the winning side had a different plan as they made sure they claimed the victory which sees them carrying on with their unbeaten run that saw them beat Egypt who made it through into the next round as second place in the group.
GUINEA-BISSAU VS NIGERIA FULL MATCH REPORT
A good first half encounter which was evenly balanced between both Nations who gave a good account of themselves all through the 45 minutes which saw opportunities created but nothing happened.
Guinea-Bissau came into the match understanding that they needed a win to ensure them any chances of qualifying as there only had one point already which with a win they might end up finishing with four with Egypt Vs Sudan game also on their mind.
It was Nigeria who dominated things going forward in attack as their Coach Austin Eguavoen making some changes to his preferred starting eleven which saw some new faces coming on to replace others who were rested after two games played already.
So much good football was witnessed as the first half hit the final few stages which opportunities were created but none could be converted from both ends of the pitch as the defenders were on high alert making sure things didn’t go bad as long as the goalkeepers doing a solid job.
Nothing happened as the first half came to a close with Guinea-Bissau holding Nigeria to a 0-0 scoreline after 45 minutes of football played between both Nations who had good opportunities of making things count but they failed to make good use of it.
Solid start to the second half seeing Guinea-Bissau Vs Nigeria resume with so much pace and power coming from them as they look hungry to score the opening goal which they tried everything possible to make happen in the first 45 minutes but failed.
It was going well as both coaches wanted it to go until Umar Sodiq scored the opening goal for the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 56th minute which was as a result of a wonderful teamwork effort which saw the striker making it 0-1 for the away side In the encounter.
The match carried on into the final few stages which saw Watford defender William Troost Ekong scoring another goal in the 75th minute of the encounter which increased the scoreline to 0-2 after a wonderful finish for the player who was exceptional.
The encounter ended with Nigeria taking all three points after beating Guinea-Bissau 0-2 to finish first in the group beating everybody including Egypt who also made it through to the next round after they beat Sudan to make sure of second placed finish.
