He was born on March 1, 1992, in Montivilliers, France which was where he grew up living with his parents, and football runs in the family.

He was born to a Senegalese mother and a Guinea-Bissauan father with citizenship in France.

Edouard is a cousin of Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy, who plays for Real Madrid and the France national team instead of Senegal.

Both players have been a subject of Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy who is currently facing charges of rape.

In 2021, Mendy’s relations heavily criticized the British and French press for wrongly using their images in stories about Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy.

Edouard started his football career at age 13 with the youth academy of Le Havre in France which saw him struggle and dropped at a certain point.

His professional career started with AS Cherbourg, who was then in the Championnat National, which is the 3rd tier side of the French football league system.

Things weren’t that good for the goalkeeper during his time with the club struggling to make a break as one of the best which wasn’t working out then.

He stayed with Cherbourg until the summer of 2014, after which he was without a club for a year after being released by them for not being seen as good enough to stay.

His debut against Tottenham in the EFL Cup was bad as the Blues lost via penalties 5-4 after playing a 1-1 draw in the match in which they crashed out.

Edouard Mendy made his Premier League debut on 3 October which saw him keep a clean sheet in Chelsea’s 4–0 victory over Crystal Palace.

He went on to become the second African goalkeeper to play in the English Premier League top division after Nigerian Carl Ikeme of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

His first three matches were a clean sheet record equally Petr Cech, he went on to keep another one against his former club Rennes in their UEFA Champions League clash.

Edouard was instrumental as he saved Sergio Aguero’s penalty in a game against Manchester City which the Blues came from behind to win 2-1.

Three weeks later he helped Chelsea win their second UEFA Champions League by defeating the same City team 1-0 with a clean sheet.
